Abu Dhabi, November 5, 2025 – President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan offered official condolences to the family of Dick Cheney, the former Vice President of the United States, who died on Monday at the age of 84.
Statements of sympathy were also issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as well as His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.
Cheney passed away on Monday night; his family said he had been battling pneumonia alongside underlying cardiac and vascular conditions. He was 84 years old.
Dick Cheney served as the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. He was widely seen as a dominant figure in the executive branch, advocating for an expanded presidential role and playing a central part in the decision-making that led to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
His death marks the end of a contentious and consequential career in American politics, with long-lasting effects on both national policy and foreign relations. The messages from UAE leaders reflect recognition of his impact and the ongoing diplomatic relationship between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
