In a significant legal development, a Kuala Lumpur court has charged six individuals, including a deputy police superintendent, linked to a series of armed robberies amounting to RM4.4 million in losses.
Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Ruzaini Ahmad Dahalan, along with his five co-accused, all entered not guilty pleas during proceedings in multiple Sessions Courts.
The prosecution alleges that the group executed synchronized robberies in Kepong’s residential zones, where they reportedly threatened victims with firearms, instilling fear in the community.
It has been reported that the suspended police officer had previously served in the Commercial Crime Investigation Department and is thought to have been instrumental in orchestrating the crimes.
Charges include those associated with armed robbery under strict firearms laws, which come with severe penalties, potentially including long prison sentences and corporal punishment.
Investigations suggest that the gang stole luxury vehicles, notably a Rolls-Royce, a Bentley, alongside cash, foreign currencies, jewelry, and bars of gold.
These incidents took place early on April 5 in the upscale area of Desa ParkCity, raising alarm over the safety of affluent neighborhoods.
No bail was granted due to the gravity of the charges, and the next court session is scheduled for May 25 as investigations continue.
This case has drawn considerable public scrutiny, especially because of the involvement of a current police officer, raising critical issues of accountability and integrity within law enforcement.
