The UAE took part in the 69th meeting of the GCC Committee for Commercial Cooperation, held in Kuwait, to enhance joint efforts for regional economic integration. The UAE delegation was led by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, who reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to supporting unified GCC economic initiatives. The meeting served as an important platform for discussing strategies to strengthen trade, investment, and development ties among Gulf states.
During the meeting, member states explored various proposals aimed at improving the integration of GCC markets. They discussed initiatives to streamline regulations, encourage cross-border investments, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the region’s economy. The discussions also covered new ways to promote the Gulf Cooperation Council as a unified economic hub capable of competing globally.
Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri emphasized that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, remains fully dedicated to supporting joint GCC efforts. He highlighted the importance of advancing economic and investment cooperation and ensuring that Gulf markets remain resilient in the face of global challenges. He further stated that the GCC’s growing strength as an economic alliance contributes significantly to regional stability and prosperity.
A major topic of discussion during the meeting was the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in driving sustainable development. Bin Touq underscored the importance of SMEs and entrepreneurship as engines of innovation and employment. He called for increased cooperation to develop supportive programmes, improve access to finance, and expand opportunities for Gulf entrepreneurs in regional and global value chains.
The committee reviewed several projects designed to improve the GCC’s investment climate and attract foreign capital. Delegates discussed the importance of creating a unified approach to business regulations and simplifying trade procedures across member states. By aligning commercial policies, the GCC aims to make the region more attractive for investors and encourage innovation in emerging sectors like digital trade and green industries.
Another key focus was strengthening the GCC’s relationships with major global economic blocs. The meeting explored frameworks for deeper cooperation with strategic partners in Asia, Europe, and North America. These efforts aim to expand market access for Gulf-based companies, promote exports, and position the GCC as a vital link in global supply chains.
Participants reviewed ongoing efforts to develop unified GCC commercial legislation. This includes progress on a regional competition law, the harmonisation of e-commerce regulations, and digital trade frameworks. Such reforms are expected to increase transparency, protect consumer rights, and encourage fair competition, laying the groundwork for a more integrated and sustainable Gulf economy.
The UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism reaffirmed that the country’s approach aligns with the broader GCC vision of achieving economic unity. He noted that innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability are central to future growth. The UAE continues to lead efforts in digital transformation, advanced manufacturing, and green economy initiatives that support shared prosperity across the Gulf region.
The 69th GCC Committee for Commercial Cooperation meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening trade and investment frameworks across member states. The UAE’s active participation underscored its leadership role in promoting regional economic development and shaping a resilient, diversified Gulf economy. Through cooperation, innovation, and forward-looking policies, the GCC is moving closer to becoming one of the most dynamic economic regions in the world.
