Zayed National Museum Recognized as One of the World’s Most Stunning Museums for 2026

Zayed National Museum has received the esteemed recognition of being one of the World’s Most Beautiful Museums 2026, as announced by Prix Versailles at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris.

This celebrated institution is among only seven globally to earn such an accolade and stands as the sole representative of the Middle East on the upcoming roster. The award honors the museum for its architectural brilliance, sustainable features, innovative spirit, and cultural value.

Crafted by the celebrated architect Norman Foster and his team at Foster + Partners, the museum resides in the Saadiyat Cultural District, covering over 56,000 square meters.

Its design draws inspiration from the wings of a falcon, paying homage to the UAE’s renowned falconry culture. The towering ensemble features five steel structures that reach up to 123 meters high, marking it as the tallest edifice in the area. These towers function as thermal chimneys, enhancing natural ventilation and cooling within the premises. The exterior mound mirrors the natural landscape of the UAE while mitigating solar heat.

Adjacent to the museum, the Al Masar Garden showcases local flora and implements a traditional falaj irrigation system. Internally, six permanent exhibits narrate over 300,000 years of regional human history, encapsulating everything from significant archaeological discoveries to the establishment of the UAE.

The museum also pays tribute to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s enduring legacy, emphasizing his commitment to safeguarding Emirati culture and identity.

Introduced in 2024, the World’s Most Beautiful Museums category from Prix Versailles selects seven museums each year, with three receiving major global awards for design excellence, both internally and externally.

The 2026 list features other renowned museums from nations including China, Japan, Lithuania, the United States, and Uzbekistan, showcasing an array of architectural and cultural prowess on the world stage.
