UAE Strongly Denounces Fatal Drone Attack on UN Peacekeepers

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a disturbing intensification of violence in Sudan, a drone attack on a United Nations logistics base in Kadugli resulted in the deaths of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers, with eight others injured. This assault targeted the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), responsible for upholding peace in the precarious Abyei area.

This incident, occurring on Saturday, has reverberated through the international arena. The UAE, via its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has conveyed a robust condemnation of the act, reaffirming its steadfast stance against violence that threatens both regional and global harmony.

UNISFA, charged with maintaining stability along the Sudan-South Sudan border, operates under mandates from the UN Security Council. Attacks on such personnel are viewed as violations of international law and a direct affront to peacekeeping missions in regions plagued by conflict. Local authorities are currently probing the attack, as the global community watches closely, advocating for accountability.

The UAE has offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the interim government of Bangladesh, and the United Nations while wishing a speedy recovery for those injured. This tragic occurrence highlights the escalating dangers that peacekeepers encounter in combat zones and raises pressing concerns about the security of international efforts in unstable regions.
