Turkey Refutes UAE Espionage Allegations, Affirms Strong Ties

Post by : Raina Nasser

Turkey has categorically dismissed claims circulating on social media that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) engaged in espionage activities within Istanbul. The Turkish Attorney General labeled these accusations as “completely untrue,” asserting that there is no substantiated evidence connecting the UAE or its nationals to any illicit actions.

This clarification followed discussions between the UAE's Attorney General and the Turkish counterpart on Thursday. As per the UAE’s official statement, the Turkish authority reviewed relevant information in collaboration with Istanbul’s prosecution office, confirming the absence of any unlawful actions or inquiries related to the UAE. Subsequently, the Turkish Public Prosecution ordered the removal of all media and social media content propagating these unfounded allegations.

The UAE Attorney General welcomed the Turkish Justice Minister's clarifications, which also denied UAE's involvement in any ongoing investigations in Istanbul. He praised Turkey’s swift response, noting it reflects the nation’s commitment to transparency and its proactive stance against the spread of misinformation.

Throughout their discussions, officials from both nations underscored the significance of enhancing judicial cooperation and streamlining communication between their respective authorities. This incident showcases the mutual efforts of Turkey and the UAE to ensure clarity, uphold mutual trust, and facilitate accurate news dissemination while combating misinformation.

This event further solidifies the robust legal and diplomatic relations between Turkey and the UAE, highlighting their joint initiatives focusing on cooperation and the critical need to address misinformation in today’s digital landscape.
