The upcoming romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, is set to release in theatres on Christmas Day. However, early box office signs suggest that the film is heading towards a slow and challenging opening.
Advance booking for the film opened three days before release, but audience response has remained weak. As of noon on December 24, trade tracking platform Sacnilk reported that the film had sold only around 51,000 tickets nationwide for its opening day. Its advance booking collection stood at approximately ₹1.97 crore, falling short of the ₹2 crore mark even hours before pre-sales closed.
For a festive release, these numbers are considered low. While romantic comedies often open smaller than action films or big-budget spectacles, industry experts note that Christmas releases usually benefit from holiday crowds. In this case, the expected festive boost appears limited.
One major reason behind the film’s struggle is stiff competition. The massive box office performance of Dhurandhar continues to dominate theatres across the country. Adding to the pressure is the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has further reduced available screens. As a result, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is finding it difficult to secure enough showtimes, especially in single-screen cinemas.
Reports suggest that the film’s producers requested at least two daily shows in single-screen theatres and multiple shows in multiplexes, depending on screen count. However, many theatres have prioritised Dhurandhar, delaying or limiting advance bookings for the rom-com. This reduced visibility could significantly affect the film’s opening weekend collections.
Directed by Sameer Sanjay Vidwans, the film follows an enemies-to-lovers storyline, a popular romantic trope. Alongside Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, the cast includes veteran actors Neena Gupta, Jackie Shroff, and Aruna Irani, adding experience and depth to the project.
Despite the slow start, the film’s fate may still depend on word-of-mouth after release. Romantic comedies sometimes grow gradually if audiences connect with the story and performances. However, with limited screens and strong rivals, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri faces an uphill battle at the box office during its crucial opening days.
