U.S. President Donald Trump has cautioned that military action against Iran could be back on the table if Tehran “misbehaves,” as his administration examines a new peace proposal intended to ease tensions between the two nations. These comments arrive amidst a delicate pause in the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Iran, and regional players in the Middle East.

Before departing Florida for Miami, Trump informed reporters that American officials had received Iran’s latest proposal via intermediaries. He indicated that the administration is reviewing the plan thoroughly but also expressed skepticism about its acceptability to Washington.

Trump reiterated that military action remains a viable option should Iran choose not to cooperate or escalate the situation again. “If they misbehave, if they do something bad, it’s a possibility,” Trump mentioned when queried about potential strikes in the future.

Tensions have resurfaced following reports that Iran forwarded a 14-point proposal through Pakistani intermediaries in an attempt to revive diplomatic discussions and avert further hostilities. Iranian media has stated that the proposal encompasses requests related to sanctions relief, the reopening of trade and shipping routes, diminishing military pressure in the region, and the recovery of frozen Iranian financial assets.

However, there are indications that the proposal does not directly tackle Iran’s nuclear program, a primary concern for Washington. U.S. officials are reported to believe that any significant agreement must address Iran’s nuclear activities directly before broader issues can be considered.

The current truce between Iran and the United States has been in effect since early April after several weeks of military escalations throughout the Middle East. This conflict heightened fears of a more extensive regional war, disrupted oil markets, and raised apprehensions regarding the safety of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial energy trade route globally.

Iranian officials have recently made bold statements, with members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps asserting that the United States faces only two options: maintain what they label as an “impossible” military operation or accept a deal they consider “poor.”

Concurrently, Trump has indicated that the United States is gearing up to safeguard commercial shipping in the Gulf region amid rising maritime security concerns. Reports suggest that numerous vessels are experiencing delays and disruptions due to increasing tensions near the Strait of Hormuz.

Political experts suggest that the latest exchange of warnings reflects the fragile nature of diplomacy between Washington and Tehran. While both sides continue to communicate through intermediaries, significant disagreements regarding sanctions, regional security, and Iran’s nuclear program hinder a final resolution.

The international community is closely observing the situation, as another significant conflict in the Middle East could impact global oil prices, international trade, and regional stability. Currently, diplomatic initiatives progress, but uncertainty looms large as both nations retain military options.
