Reza Amiri Moghadam, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, lauded the country’s diplomatic initiatives in the ongoing discussions involving the United States, remarking on a “positive shift” towards a feasible peace agreement. This affirmation arises amidst a surge in diplomatic activities aimed at alleviating tensions in the Middle East following months of unrest.
The envoy took to social media to express his appreciation after Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi concluded discussions in Tehran with high-ranking Iranian officials. Moghadam highlighted how Pakistan’s mediation efforts instilled cautious optimism regarding the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington. He emphasized that the continuity of this progress hinges on the US's commitment to the diplomatic dialogue and adherence to the ongoing discussions.
Further, Moghadam recognized the contributions of Pakistan’s leadership—Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. He praised their “sincere endeavors” in fostering diplomatic relations that could pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan has recently positioned itself as a critical mediator amid the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. Reports indicate that Islamabad has been facilitating back-channel talks, providing a platform for both parties to maintain dialogue during a fragile ceasefire. Pakistani officials have reiterated their commitment to averting a broader regional conflict and restoring diplomatic ties between Tehran and Washington.
The ongoing peace negotiations are intricately linked to efforts aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil shipping corridor that has endured significant disruptions amidst naval activities and military tensions in the Gulf. US President Donald Trump recently suggested that a substantial agreement with Iran and the reopening of this vital waterway were “largely negotiated,” though some issues remain contentious.
Despite these encouraging developments, significant disagreements persist between the two nations. Iran is reportedly seeking sanctions relief, security assurances, and acknowledgment of its regional interests, while the United States continues to advocate for restrictions concerning Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities. Iranian officials have stressed that rebuilding trust is essential amidst the backdrop of prolonged tensions and confrontations.
International observers assert that Pakistan’s involvement has been crucial in facilitating communication between the two sides during these challenging times. Regional players such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates are also extending support for diplomatic efforts to avert a major conflict in the Middle East. Analysts indicate that a successful agreement between Iran and the United States could enhance regional security, stabilize global oil markets, and mitigate tensions across the Gulf.
