The Swiss women’s soccer team is getting ready for the big Euro 2025 tournament. But before the competition started, they played a friendly game against a boys’ team under 15 years old from Luzern. The boys won by a big score of 7 to 1.
Even though the loss was very one-sided, the Swiss team’s player, Leila Wandeler, said the score did not matter much. The team used the game to practice how they wanted to play and to get stronger for the tournament. The training has been very hard, but everyone wants to be in the best shape for the European Championship.
A team official explained that it is normal for women’s teams to play against boys’ teams because it helps them get used to fast and strong games like the ones in big international matches.
This is not the first time a top women’s team lost to a boys’ team. In 2017, the top-ranked U.S. women’s team also lost to a boys’ team in a practice game.
Switzerland will start its Euro 2025 tournament soon, with the first game against Norway in Basel next week.
