Storm Jangmi Hits Japan, Wreaks Havoc

Post by : Shakul

On June 2, a powerful tropical storm, initially classified as a typhoon, swept through southwestern Japan, leading to widespread chaos as high winds and torrential rain impacted various regions. Tropical Storm Jangmi continued its path north after making landfall near Okinawa.

Reports indicate that numerous households faced power outages as the storm's fierce winds and rainfall battered the area. Utility teams were dispatched to restore electricity, while emergency responders kept a close watch on weather-related issues across the regions.

The storm also severely disrupted travel plans, causing the cancellation and delay of hundreds of flights, both domestic and international. Transportation agencies advised travelers to monitor their schedules due to the unpredictable weather conditions.

Local authorities have reported at least nine injuries attributed to the storm, primarily resulting from accidents linked to strong winds, falling debris, and hazardous surface conditions. Emergency services remained vigilant as the storm progressed through the vicinity.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings regarding exceptionally high waves, potential landslides, and flooding. Residents in at-risk coastal and mountainous regions were urged to exercise caution and adhere to evacuation protocols if necessary. Officials warned that saturated ground could pose an increased landslide risk even after the storm weakens.

Okinawa bore the brunt of the storm, enduring intense winds, rough seas, and heavy rainfall that disrupted daily life and business operations. Local governments have initiated emergency measures to safeguard the public and mitigate potential damage.

Meteorologists are actively monitoring Storm Jangmi as it progresses northward. While it has weakened from its typhoon classification, officials caution that it still poses significant risks for hazardous weather. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts and advisories as efforts for recovery advance.
