Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, 79, was admitted to a hospital in Delhi on Monday evening following mild respiratory issues. Hospital sources indicate that this admission is primarily precautionary, as she has a long-standing history of chronic cough and bronchial asthma.
Medical professionals pointed out that the recent cold snap, combined with elevated pollution levels in Delhi, has led to a mild exacerbation of her asthma. She has been given antibiotics along with supportive medications and is reportedly responding positively to treatment.
Hospital officials confirmed that Gandhi is under the detailed observation of a chest specialist. “Her condition is stable and being carefully monitored. Discharge will be determined based on her recovery, which is anticipated within a day or two,” the hospital chairman stated.
This hospitalization follows earlier health concerns; in June 2025, Gandhi was treated for a severe stomach infection and discharged after four days. That same month, she also had a routine health check-up at a Shimla hospital, which affirmed her well-being.
Authorities have stressed that Gandhi’s present hospitalization is a routine measure aimed at safeguarding her health considering her medical history. Family members and party associates have been informed, and hospital officials emphasize that there is no immediate reason for concern.
Gandhi remains under comprehensive care and is anticipated to make a complete recovery while continuing to be monitored. Medical staff will keep a watchful eye on her condition until she achieves full stability for discharge.
