Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, reiterated that he has no intention of parting ways with Mohamed Salah. He plans to have a direct meeting with Salah to determine his participation in Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brighton. This conversation follows Salah’s recent statements after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, which stirred concerns over his future at the club. Currently, Liverpool sits in 10th place in the league, having accumulated 23 points across 15 matches—a stark contrast to their title-winning performance last year.
Salah’s absence from the squad for Liverpool's 1-0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan has intensified the speculation. According to Slot, this decision was made by the club, but he retains full authority over team selection. He mentioned that he is in regular communication with sporting director Richard Hughes; however, the ultimate decision on the squad lies with him.
Slot refrained from confirming Salah's future with the club. He indicated that any further discussions should take place directly with the player, noting that numerous conversations have already occurred between Salah, his agents, and the club following the Sunderland match. The uncertainty surrounding this Premier League star continues to escalate.
Concerns also surround the availability of Alexander Isak for the upcoming game against Brighton. Slot disclosed that Isak sustained a knock during the first half of the Inter Milan match and will undergo a medical evaluation before a final decision is reached. He commended the developing synergy between Isak and Hugo Ekitike, expressing confidence that their partnership will improve with more time on the pitch.
The manager confirmed Federico Chiesa has recovered from illness and will be available for selection, but Wataru Endo and Cody Gakpo are expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Salah, revered as the Egyptian King, has encountered challenges this season after a stellar 2024-25 campaign. He is scheduled to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, placing Liverpool in a position to maintain their unbeaten streak in his absence while navigating the ongoing off-field issues.
Reports indicate that Saudi clubs remain keen on the star forward, and recent hints dropped by Salah have sparked further questions about his return to Anfield post-tournament. His future hangs in the balance as Liverpool strives to stabilize their season.
