Sharjah Establishes Design Council to Enhance Creative Landscape

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi has made a pivotal administrative decision to create the “Sharjah Design Council,” aimed at fortifying the design industry within the emirate while catalyzing the development of creative sectors.

This initiative is aligned with the vision of the Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ), which is dedicated to attracting talent, renowned global brands, and contemporary design practices to the Emirate.

To complement this effort, SCQ plans to host “Sharjah Design Days,” a dedicated platform designed to connect designers, creative minds, and industry professionals from around the globe. This platform aims to foster the design ecosystem in Sharjah while elevating its stature on both regional and international fronts.

The administrative decision specifies that the Sharjah Design Council will focus on crafting specialized initiatives and programs that promote a sustainable creative environment in the emirate. Additionally, the council aspires to enhance Sharjah's reputation as a leading hub for design and cultural enterprises in the region.

Fostering regional and international alliances in design will be a core focus of the council, which will also assist both budding and established designers through educational and training resources. Encouraging innovation and creativity across various design fields will be a priority.

Key responsibilities of the council include formulating strategies and policies impacting the design sector, overseeing the execution of programs, as well as organizing exhibitions, showcases, and specialized events.

Furthermore, the council is set to initiate sustainable practices in prototype design and production, reinforcing Sharjah’s long-term ambition to be a prominent hub for creativity and cultural advancement in the region.
