Russia has said it is ready to help bring peace between Israel and Iran, acting as a middleman to ease the growing conflict. The Kremlin also said its earlier plan to keep Iran’s uranium in Russia is still available if both sides agree.
Iran has said many times that it wants to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. But many countries in the West and the Gulf are worried. They fear Iran’s fast-growing uranium program could be used to make nuclear weapons.
Before Israel launched military attacks on Iran, Russia had already offered to take Iran’s highly enriched uranium and turn it into fuel that can only be used in nuclear power plants. Russia said this idea could help lower tensions and prevent further violence.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, “This offer is still open. It can still help. But now that fighting has started, things have become much more difficult.”
On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was hopeful peace could come soon. He also mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin could play a big role in making that happen.
Peskov confirmed that Russia is still ready to act as a peacemaker. But he also said the real problems behind the conflict need to be solved. He warned that the recent military strikes are only making things worse. “Russia is ready to do whatever is needed to fix the root problems,” Peskov said. “But the situation is getting more serious every day, and it’s not helping anyone.”
When asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comment that the military attacks might cause a regime change in Iran, Peskov said the Kremlin had seen those remarks.
He added, “We do not support actions that make the region more dangerous. Also, we are seeing that Iranian people are standing more united as Israel continues to bomb the country.”
Russia continues to call for peace and hopes to stop the crisis from getting worse. The Kremlin believes solving the real issues and stopping violence are the only ways forward.
