Rowan Atkinson Critiques Mr. Bean Before New Netflix Series

Post by : Raina Nasser

In an unexpected turn, British comedian Rowan Atkinson has candidly discussed his iconic character, Mr. Bean, ahead of the Netflix release of his miniseries, Man vs. Baby, set to premiere on December 11. During a London screening, Atkinson offered a strikingly critical perspective on the beloved figure, admitting he personally finds Mr. Bean quite disagreeable.

Atkinson characterized Mr. Bean as selfish and anarchic, implying that he wouldn’t enjoy sharing a meal with him in real life. Despite the character's immense global appeal and comedic talent, Atkinson expressed his disdain, stating that he wouldn’t welcome Mr. Bean into his home. He remarked that the character mirrors aspects of his own childhood behavior, particularly a mix of selfishness and eccentric problem-solving.

“I dislike Mr. Bean as a person. He is possibly a bit like I was at age ten – that sort of childish selfishness and working things out in a slightly eccentric way. But at the same time, I wouldn’t want him in my house,” Atkinson stated, providing fans with a unique glimpse into the thought process behind this iconic comedic persona.

Nevertheless, Mr. Bean continues to stand as one of the United Kingdom's most significant comedy contributions. Since its inception in 1990, the franchise has captivated audiences in over 190 countries, boasts over 35 million YouTube subscribers, and has amassed more than 12 billion views globally. Atkinson's upcoming Netflix series, Man vs. Baby, seeks to present his distinctive humor in a fresh context while unveiling the creator’s unfiltered reflections on one of comedy's most well-known characters.
