Rohit Sharma Set to Play Initial Matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai

Post by : Mara Rahim

In a significant boost for Mumbai, Rohit Sharma has been named in the lineup for the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The team will be under the captaincy of all-rounder Shardul Thakur, showcasing a strategic mix of seasoned players alongside promising youngsters.

Renowned players such as Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi are part of the squad, with Siddhesh Lad adding his experience. Wicketkeeping responsibilities will fall to Hardik Tamore and Akash Anand, while the spin lineup boasts the dependable combination of Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian.

Some notable absentees include Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ayush Mhatre. In their stead, selectors have introduced fresh talent, including the recall of Chinmay Sutar, who previously featured in List A games for India Emerging. Newcomer Ishan Mulchandani and fast bowler Onkar Tarmale, who gained visibility after being selected by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL auction, have also earned their spots.

Placed in Group C, Mumbai will kick off their tournament against Sikkim on December 24 in Jaipur, followed by a match against Uttarakhand two days later. Aiming for a strong start, the team aspires for a robust showing in the early rounds of the competition.

With Rohit Sharma bolstering the lineup and Shardul Thakur at the helm, Mumbai is optimistic that their combination of experienced veterans and young talent will yield impressive performances in the beginning phase of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
