Reliance Industries is taking a significant step into India’s artificial intelligence landscape. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced plans for a 1-gigawatt AI data centre in Andhra Pradesh, intended to feature cutting-edge processors such as GPUs and TPUs. This data centre is envisioned as a “fully modular, future-ready” facility.
Operationally, this data centre will be a counterpart to Reliance's existing AI facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat, creating one of Asia's most robust AI computation networks.
To ensure sustainability, a 6 GWp solar power project is also in the works. This initiative aims to double the region's current solar capacity while providing renewable energy for the data centre.
Beyond sheer infrastructure, Reliance envisions a mission to democratise AI. Via its MyJio platform, the firm aims to offer “pro-level AI tools” for students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and families across India.
This investment further entrenches Reliance's presence in Andhra Pradesh, with over $25 billion already invested in telecommunications (Jio), retail, and oil-and-gas sectors.
While specific financial details regarding the AI centre remain undisclosed, the agreement was made during a notable gathering—the CII Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, attended by CM Naidu and state minister Nara Lokesh.
This initiative follows closely behind Google’s announcement of a significant $15 billion investment to develop a 1 GW AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.
