President Vladimir Putin of Russia has been formally invited to join a proposed “Board of Peace,” put forward by US President Donald Trump. This board is intended to supervise governance and reconstruction efforts in postwar Gaza, as confirmed by the Kremlin on Monday.
Kremlin representatives reported that the invitation has been officially communicated to Moscow, where it is currently under review. The initiative is designed to address matters such as administrative oversight, infrastructure rebuilding, and ensuring long-term stability in Gaza following the recent conflict.
The Kremlin also indicated that Russia is seeking additional insights from Washington to fully grasp the envisioned framework of the proposed board. This includes understanding the board’s mandate, decision-making structure, authority level, and the anticipated roles of participating nations. Moscow has assured that any decision regarding its participation will come only after a thorough evaluation of the proposal.
The concept of a Board of Peace is garnering attention as discussions intensify globally on the governance and reconstruction of Gaza in the aftermath of the war. Although the proposal indicates an effort to bring pivotal international actors into postwar planning, numerous aspects of the initiative remain vague, prompting hesitant reactions from potential participants.
Russia’s stance is in line with its general approach to international conflict resolution, highlighting the necessity for clear objectives, compliance with international law, and inclusive dialogue. The Kremlin has reiterated that discussions with US officials will persist as it considers the diplomatic and strategic ramifications of participating in such a board.
Should this initiative come to fruition, the involvement of major world powers could substantially shape the future of Gaza’s reconstruction and governance. Putin's potential engagement, contingent on clarifications and consensus on terms, represents a significant milestone in the ongoing international efforts aimed at stabilizing the region post-conflict.
