Vietnam’s PM Discusses Labor and Productivity with Trade Union Leaders

Post by : Shakul

At the National Convention Center in Hanoi, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung engaged in an extensive dialogue with delegates from the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, emphasizing key issues related to labor productivity, worker welfare, and the digital transformation of industries.

Under the theme “Vietnam Trade Union's Role in Elevating Labor Productivity for Double-Digit Economic Growth,” delegates brought forth practical challenges impacting workers in various sectors, while proposing viable solutions aimed at enhancing workforce quality and supporting the broader economic growth of Vietnam.

Union leaders reaffirmed that bolstering labor productivity is a national priority. They stressed the importance of continuous skills development, offering vocational training opportunities, and embracing advanced technology to ensure that workers can thrive amid evolving labor market demands and advancements in the digital economy.

Concerns regarding wage levels and living conditions were prominently addressed, highlighting the struggle many workers face despite Vietnam’s robust economy. There were strong calls for improved wage regulations, better welfare programs, and accessible housing, childcare services, and healthcare to foster stable livelihoods for the workforce.

Housing was flagged as a critical issue, with delegates advocating for increased social housing initiatives, more long-term rental options in industrial areas, and enhanced infrastructure in worker communities. They argued that affordable housing is crucial for ensuring a stable and productive labor force.

The health and safety of workers also took center stage, as union representatives highlighted the need for improved occupational health strategies, enhanced food safety regulations, better access to medical care, and support for mental health initiatives. They emphasized that maintaining healthy workers is essential for sustainable productivity and economic progress.

Additionally, the importance of digital transformation and artificial intelligence in the workplace was discussed. Delegates urged for increased digital skills training, more investment in technology, and stronger partnerships between trade unions and tech companies. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing worker conditions, fostering labor rights, and facilitating opportunities aligned with Vietnam’s long-term growth objectives.
