Delhi Blaze Investigation: B&B Owner Present but Soon Disappeared

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Recent revelations have surfaced regarding the inquiry into the tragic fire at Flourish Stay B&B in Delhi, which has resulted in 21 fatalities.

Mohammed Wasim, a nearby resident, stated that Lavkesh Bajaj, the guest house owner, arrived while flames were still engulfing the building but departed shortly thereafter.

Wasim, 37, mentioned that he arrived at the location around 8:30 am and observed dense smoke emanating from the structure. He contacted Bajaj at 8:52 am to alert him of the escalating situation.

"I informed him of the intensity of the fire, and he acknowledged it. I asked him to come over and then ended the call," Wasim recounted.

According to Wasim, Bajaj showed up approximately 10 minutes later. He noted that he spotted Bajaj outside the premises wearing a white T-shirt, but amid the chaos of rescue efforts, he did not interact with him.

"I was occupied with rescue operations, but I did see him there for about 10 to 15 minutes before he left," Wasim continued.

Both police officials and community members indicated that Bajaj owns two additional B&B properties nearby and frequently visited the restaurant affiliated with Flourish Stay B&B.

Investigators have clarified that, while Bajaj is the owner, the license for the establishment names Jay Mishra as the registered owner, who is responsible for its management.

Police disclosed that Mishra, identified as an accountant in legal documents, is currently evading capture. Authorities are also searching for Rakesh, another individual presumed to have managed the B&B, who is missing.

In another development, a Delhi court has remanded Lavkesh Bajaj to four days in police custody, emphasizing the need for custodial interrogation given the gravity of the situation and ongoing investigations concerning this devastating incident.

The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover the details surrounding one of the most catastrophic fire incidents in Delhi in recent memory.
