Thailand's PM Anutin Advocates for Swift Justice and Rule of Law

During a significant national gathering at the IMPACT FORUM in Nonthaburi, Anutin Charnvirakul reinforced Thailand’s dedication to justice reform and upholding the rule of law. The theme of the event was “24 Years of Swift, Comprehensive, and Just Assistance to Innocent Victims,” where the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of quick and equitable justice to foster public trust and national stability.

Anutin stated, “Justice delayed is justice denied,” and underscored the government's duty to safeguard innocent citizens and ensure justice is applied fairly to everyone. He articulated that justice and the rule of law are essential to social cohesion, democratic governance, and sustainable national progress in Thailand.

He mentioned that the government is committed to equally protecting victims, suspects, and defendants in the legal sphere. Anutin affirmed that assistance should be granted impartially, regardless of nationality or social status, ensuring fair treatment under universal human rights norms even for foreign residents in Thailand.

Referring to his government’s policy speech to Parliament on April 9, 2026, Anutin reiterated Thailand's resolve to enhance legal equality and access to justice. He noted that proactive legal reforms are underway to ease burdens on citizens and enhance governmental efficiency through technological advancements.

The suffering endured by innocents embroiled in criminal cases was also a point of emphasis for the Prime Minister. He cautioned against the ramifications of wrongful charges and judicial delays which can tarnish reputations and affect lives. Anutin insisted that the government must take measures to avert the unjust targeting of innocents within the justice framework.

Officials reported that since the enactment of the Compensation for Victims and Reimbursement of Expenses for Defendants in Criminal Cases Act in 2001, more than 145,000 innocent individuals have received help, with over 8.1 billion baht distributed to assist those affected by legal proceedings. Over 1,000 foreign nationals have also been aided since 2023, receiving compensation totaling over 47 million baht.

Anutin urged all state entities to operate on three core principles: speed, thoroughness, and fairness. He asserted that victims deserve prompt assistance without delays or complicated processes and called upon civil servants and provincial governors to take initiative in resolving legal challenges and alleviating the struggles faced by citizens.

Enhancing the justice system is pivotal not only for Thailand’s reputation but also for its economic prospects, according to the Prime Minister. He noted that robust legal frameworks are crucial for attracting foreign investments and are closely scrutinized by international organizations, especially as Thailand pursues membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Anutin conveyed that transparent legal systems boost confidence among the business community and the global audience.

The ceremony concluded with Anutin symbolically adjusting a clock to noon, signifying the objective of prompt and impartial justice delivery. He also presented financial aid to four victims under Thailand's compensation initiative for those affected by criminal cases. Officials described this event as part of a broader governmental initiative to modernize the justice system and guarantee equitable treatment for all in Thailand.
