Pilot in Bengaluru Charged with Rape of Cabin Crew Member

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a distressing incident reported from Bengaluru, a 60-year-old pilot from a private airline has been accused of raping a 26-year-old cabin crew member at a luxury hotel last week. The alleged assault occurred on November 18, after the pilot had completed a chartered flight from Begumpet in Hyderabad to Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.

According to law enforcement officials, the accused, named Rohit Saran, checked into the hotel with a colleague and the cabin crew member to rest before their return flight to Puttaparthi scheduled for the next day. The victim stated in her report that Rohit enticed her to his hotel room under the guise of taking a smoke break, where she claims he assaulted her.

Upon their return to Begumpet on November 20, the victim swiftly alerted the airline management about the incident and subsequently registered a zero FIR at the Begumpet Police Station. Authorities have officially filed the case under Section 63 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses rape-related offenses.

The case has now been handed over to Halasuru Police Station in Bengaluru for an in-depth investigation. Police have stated that inquiries are continuing, while specific information about the suspect's custody or legal actions is yet to be revealed.

This troubling incident has sparked serious discussions about the safety protocols for cabin crew during professional travel, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced measures in chartered flights and hotel lodgings.
