Charles Oliveira has addressed fan concerns about a potential January fight for the BMF title against Max Holloway, stating that, while a rematch is indeed in the works, it won't be happening just yet.
The ex-UFC lightweight champion, fresh off a submission triumph over Mateusz Gamrot in Rio de Janeiro, shared on Instagram that negotiations are taking place, but a concrete date is still pending. “I want to clarify, there’s nothing confirmed for January regarding my fight with Max Holloway,” Oliveira mentioned. “I’m currently spending time with my family… so January is definitely off the table. But make no mistake; this upcoming fight will happen. I’m keen, he’s keen, and I know you are too.”
Oliveira first conveyed his desire for this rematch after encountering a setback in a title match against Ilia Topuria earlier this year. Holloway, however, has not stepped into the Octagon since defending his BMF title against Dustin Poirier in July, following a featherweight defeat to Topuria in late 2024.
The pair previously clashed in August 2015 during a 145-pound matchup that was cut short after just 99 seconds due to a neck injury sustained by Oliveira. Since then, both fighters have ascended to championship contention in the UFC, making this rematch a highly awaited event among fans.
Oliveira hinted that clearer details may emerge soon, pointing to March or April as potential timeframes for the fight. With both athletes eager to face off, UFC fans are eagerly anticipating what promises to be an exhilarating rematch for one of the sport's most prized titles.
