On October 29, 2025, Gaza saw a sharp escalation as Israeli airstrikes reportedly killed at least 50 people—22 of them children—and left roughly 200 others wounded, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency. Multiple locations were struck, leaving families and neighbourhoods in mourning.
Mahmud Bassal, a spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defence agency, described the aftermath as "catastrophic and terrifying," and said the strikes amounted to a breach of the existing ceasefire. Hospitals are stretched beyond capacity and emergency teams are struggling to respond to the scale of the casualties.
The Israeli army said its strikes targeted 30 militant commanders across Gaza, contending the operations were designed to neutralise imminent threats. Still, the operation’s civilian toll has been significant, with a notable number of women and children among the victims.
International organisations have raised alarm over the intensifying violence, warning that continued military action risks further destabilising Gaza and worsening the humanitarian emergency.
Residents in affected districts report acute shortages of medical supplies, clean water and food, adding to already dire living conditions. Aid agencies have called for immediate intervention to support the injured and displaced families.
Authorities and aid groups say this ranks among the deadliest days in Gaza this year, underlining urgent questions about civilian protection amid ongoing operations. The situation remains tense with fears of further escalation.
