Demonstrating significant progress in its space endeavors, South Korea’s indigenous rocket, Nuri, successfully blasted off from the Naro Space Centre, deploying a total of 13 satellites into orbit. The 200-ton rocket launched from Goheung, a coastal village located 473 kilometers south of Seoul, underscoring the nation’s advancing capabilities in aerospace technology.
One of the key satellites, CAS500-3, successfully established communication with King Sejong Station in Antarctica, confirming its operational status. This event marks the fourth successful launch of the Nuri rocket, further entrenching South Korea’s status in the global space domain.
The CAS500-3 satellite is set to contribute significantly to space research, focusing on measuring magnetic fields, plasma, and observing auroras. Its launch illustrates South Korea’s increasing emphasis on scientific exploration beyond mere Earth observation and telecommunications.
The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) and Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) have reported that all 13 satellites were successfully placed in their designated orbits, attesting to the Nuri launch system's precision and reliability.
Looking forward, South Korea aims to maintain its launch cadence with plans for a fifth Nuri mission in 2026, followed by another in 2027, reflecting a strong commitment to space exploration and technological advancement.
This achievement highlights South Korea’s dedication to fostering scientific research and pursuing technological independence in the fiercely competitive arena of space exploration.
