In a captivating matchup on Monday night, the Denver Nuggets triumphed over the Memphis Grizzlies, finishing 125-115 and snapping Memphis’ two-game winning streak. The victory was underpinned by impressive contributions from Jamal Murray, Peyton Watson, and Nikola Jokic, especially in the high-stakes moments of the fourth quarter.
Murray was the standout scorer, racking up 29 points, showcasing his shooting skills with critical long-distance shots late in the game. Watson also delivered a stellar performance, netting 27 points, marked by intelligent plays and significant three-pointers. Jokic showed his multifaceted talent once more, achieving a triple-double with 17 points, 16 assists, and 10 rebounds, playing a vital role in maintaining Denver's rhythm throughout.
One key factor in the game was Denver's shooting proficiency. The Nuggets recorded 22 three-pointers, their highest tally this season, aiding them in maintaining their lead despite a late charge from Memphis. Murray contributed six threes, while Watson added five, bolstering Denver's confidence during challenging stretches.
The Grizzlies put up a strong fight in the second half. After the Nuggets surged to a 108-91 advantage early in the fourth quarter thanks to Cam Johnson's four-point play, Memphis rallied with a 12-0 run. Their defense tightened, creating scoring opportunities and narrowing the deficit to five points, energizing their home crowd.
Nevertheless, Denver kept their composure. In the final four minutes, Murray hit crucial three-pointers to extend the lead. Jokic also delivered a memorable highlight—a behind-the-back assist to Watson for a layup that put the Nuggets ahead 121-112, effectively sealing their victory and showcasing Jokic’s creative playmaking.
For Memphis, Jock Landale was a key performer off the bench, matching his career-best with 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. His spirited effort helped the Grizzlies stay within striking distance. Jaylen Wells also made a notable contribution with 22 points, while Cam Spencer added 18 to the scoreboard, ensuring Memphis remained competitive despite Denver’s dominance.
Memphis faced a challenge as Zach Edey left the game due to a head injury after receiving an accidental elbow from Jokic. His absence was felt in the paint, especially since Edey had been in strong form.
Fortunately for the Grizzlies, Jaren Jackson Jr. returned from an ankle injury, contributing 16 points but was unable to counter Denver’s comprehensive offensive strategy.
Despite missing Aaron Gordon due to a right hamstring strain, Denver displayed remarkable teamwork and tenacity, reinforcing their reputation as one of the league’s most formidable squads.
With this win, the Nuggets improved their overall record and garnered momentum, while Memphis will look to regroup for their upcoming contests.
