FIFA Launches $60 Tickets for 2026 World Cup Attendees

FIFA Launches $60 Tickets for 2026 World Cup Attendees

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a significant development, FIFA has unveiled a new category of ticketing for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, introducing a selection of $60 (£45) “supporter entry” tickets available for all 104 matches. This decision follows considerable backlash regarding the initial pricing scheme of the tournament.

According to FIFA, these tickets are tailored specifically for “loyal fans” of the nations that qualify for the World Cup, aiming to facilitate better access to match attendance. A FIFA representative commented: “We have responded to constructive feedback and believe this new category is a necessary step forward,” affirming a unanimous agreement among decision-makers.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has praised this initiative but has urged FIFA to implement further measures to keep ticket prices within reach for true supporters. Previously, following England to the finals could have cost fans upwards of £5,000, a price labeled as “outrageous” by the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA).

The £45 ticket constitutes the lowest pricing tier, termed the ‘supporter entry tier’, and will allow for 10% of the ticket allocation for each football association involved in matches held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. For England and Scotland, approximately 400 tickets will be available at this price for the group stage.

Despite this announcement, FSA chair Tom Greatrex criticized it as a “token gesture,” implying it does not fully tackle the concerns of the fans. Meanwhile, Football Supporters Europe (FSE) voiced approval but indicated that the change is insufficient to alleviate the impact of earlier pricing models.

FIFA also clarified that each participating member association (PMA) will oversee the selection and distribution process for these tickets, establishing eligibility criteria to prioritize fans closely aligned with their national teams. Altogether, 50% of each PMA’s allocation will fall within the most budget-friendly range: comprising 40% in the ‘supporter value tier’ and 10% in the ‘supporter entry tier’, with the remainder split between ‘supporter standard’ and ‘supporter premier’ categories.

This adjustment highlights FIFA’s recognition of fan feedback and a commitment to providing more accessible experiences at the World Cup, while also ensuring a structured distribution that rewards devoted supporters.
