In a thrilling encounter, Morocco secured their second FIFA Arab Cup title with a dramatic 3-2 win over Jordan after extra time, fueled by Oussama Tannane’s incredible long-range goal from his own half. The final at Lusail Stadium got off to a sensational start when Tannane, competing in Qatar’s league, unleashed a stunning 59-meter strike that struck the post, momentarily halting the game.
Jordan matched Morocco's intensity and equalized early in the second half, as Ali Oliwan netted a well-placed header from a corner. They then took the lead in the 68th minute with a penalty after Mahmoud Almardi’s shot struck a Moroccan hand in the box, allowing Oliwan to net his second.
Morocco rallied back to level the score in the 88th minute when substitute Abderrazak Hamdallah scored in a goalmouth scramble, sending the match into extra time. Jordan came tantalizingly close to clinching victory in the final moments of normal time but squandered a golden opportunity.
During extra time, Jordan’s Mohannad Abutaha produced an outstanding volley, only to have it ruled out by VAR for a handball. Morocco eventually sealed their win when Hamdallah scored his second goal following a beautiful bicycle kick from Marwane Saadane on a set piece, concluding the match at 3-2.
This victory marks a significant moment for Morocco, adding to their Arab Cup title from 2012. They showcased their dominance in the initial stages, with Tannane coming close to adding another goal before halftime, delivering a blend of skill, determination, and excitement for fans.
As they look ahead, Morocco is set to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, bolstered by European-based stars who were absent during the Arab Cup. The 2025 FIFA Arab Cup also made history, with ticket sales surpassing one million, doubling attendance from the previous edition.
Tannane’s remarkable goal and Hamdallah’s key finish have etched Morocco’s victory into the annals of African football history.
