Iranian Health Official Reports Supreme Leader Khamenei Sustained Minor Injuries in U.S.-Israeli Airstrikes

Post by : Shweta

An Iranian health official has disclosed that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei endured only “superficial” injuries during airstrikes conducted by the U.S. and Israel in late February. This marks one of the first significant public updates from Iranian officials concerning Khamenei’s well-being since the strikes, which claimed the lives of multiple high-ranking Iranian leaders, including his predecessor, Ali Khamenei.

Hossein Kermanpour, spokesman for Iran’s Health Ministry, reported that Khamenei experienced minor injuries to his face, head, and legs but stated that they were not severe enough to warrant anything beyond basic medical care, such as stitches. He emphasized that there were no serious physical ramifications or long-lasting health issues.

This announcement follows months of conjecture regarding Khamenei’s health status and location. Since taking on the role of Supreme Leader on March 8, Mojtaba Khamenei has largely remained out of public view, relying mainly on written communications. His absence from public appearances and media broadcasts has fueled widespread speculation about potential severe injuries or an inability to govern effectively.

The airstrikes in February were part of a significant military campaign conducted during the ongoing 2026 Iran conflict, as confirmed by Iranian state media. This operation was particularly devastating, resulting in the death of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior military and security figures, significantly heightening tensions in the region.

In March, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested that Mojtaba Khamenei might be alive but had sustained injuries, possibly leading to disfigurement. Iranian officials categorically denied this assertion, labeling it as politically charged and exaggerated. The recent comments from the Health Ministry seem to be a response aimed at quelling international speculation and reassuring the public about the Supreme Leader’s health.

Sources indicate that Khamenei continues to manage the government through secure channels while under strict protective measures. Iranian officials have reportedly limited his public engagement due to concerns over assassination ambitions or intelligence threats aimed at the Iranian leadership.

The context remains politically vital as Iran engages in intricate negotiations with the U.S. regarding sanctions and nuclear activities. Analysts argue that the uncertainty surrounding the Supreme Leader’s health could impact Iran’s internal decision-making and delay essential diplomatic initiatives.

Despite the Iranian government’s latest assertions, international observers continue to scrutinize Mojtaba Khamenei’s condition and his capacity to lead amid considerable military and political strain. Nevertheless, Iranian officials maintain that the nation's leadership structure is stable and fully functioning following the recent attacks.
