The Emirates College for Advanced Education successfully wrapped up its 12th Annual Autism Forum, reinforcing its dedication to fostering inclusive education and advocacy for individuals with autism spectrum disorder in the UAE.
Spanning two days under the theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” the forum united educators, specialists, policymakers, families, and key stakeholders to deliberate on enhancing inclusive education and fortifying collaboration within the education sector. This event coincided with Autism Awareness Month and aligned with the UAE’s Year of Family goals.
The forum aimed at cultivating empathy, empowerment, and actionable approaches to enhance the quality of life for those with autism, ensuring their meaningful integration into society. Organized annually by ECAE, it serves as a vital venue for sharing knowledge, exchanging best practices, and fostering dialogue on creating inclusive educational environments.
Dr. May Laith Al Taee, the Vice Chancellor of ECAE, emphasized that promoting inclusive education is a collective duty extending from families to schools and the broader community. She highlighted the need for learning spaces where every individual can learn and engage with equal opportunities.
On the first day, attendees engaged in discussions regarding recent innovations in inclusive education, focusing on collaborative teaching strategies, community engagement, and effective instructional methodologies for children with autism. Experts spotlighted evidence-based strategies to enhance inclusive educational settings.
The forum also showcased an “Inspirational Stories” segment, introducing a film and a book aimed at promoting empathy and comprehension towards individuals with autism.
The second day shifted attention to genuine inclusion for children with autism spectrum disorder, highlighting the critical role of collaboration among families, educators, and specialists. Discussions included the impact of research-led education and community-based studies on refining inclusive practices for lasting outcomes.
Organized in partnership with various prominent organizations, such as the Ministry of Education, Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, Special Olympics UAE, and the University of Birmingham Dubai, the forum aimed to enhance inclusive education throughout the nation.
In continuation of Autism Awareness Month, ECAE is implementing additional initiatives, including panel discussions and awareness sessions involved in the “I Learn” and “I Care” campaigns. These programs highlight the vital role families play in nurturing inclusive children and bolstering social integration in communities.
