Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh has addressed the controversy surrounding the Federation of Western India Cine Employees' (FWICE) non-cooperation order stemming from his reported withdrawal from the eagerly awaited film Don 3. This situation has sparked widespread dialogue in the Indian film sector regarding commitment and professional accountability.
On May 25, 2026, FWICE announced its directive, citing that Ranveer had neglected to appear before them despite several reminders. The federation claimed to have made efforts to understand both sides before reaching this conclusion, as filmmaker Farhan Akhtar had formally lodged a complaint regarding Ranveer’s exit from the project.
Ranveer’s spokesperson issued an official statement, underscoring the actor’s reverence for the film industry and all those connected to the Don franchise. The statement conveyed that Ranveer opted for silence during this period, asserting that such professional conflicts should be managed with dignity and mutual respect instead of through public disputes.
The official communication further noted that while various speculations have emerged, the actor prefers to avoid unnecessary public debates. Team Ranveer emphasized his ongoing commitment to his work and conveyed goodwill toward everyone involved with the project, expressing sincere hopes for the success of the Don franchise amid the ongoing discord.
FWICE Chief Advisor Ashok Pandit clarified at a press conference that the complaint dates back to April 11, when Farhan Akhtar sought intervention due to Ranveer's sudden exit weeks before the film’s shooting. This action reportedly disrupted production plans and financial arrangements.
The federation disclosed that producer Farhan Akhtar, alongside Ritesh Sidhwani, attended meetings to voice their issues. While Ritesh was present physically, Farhan connected virtually from London to share the events that led to the dispute. FWICE officials contended that numerous notices requesting Ranveer's presence were sent every ten to fifteen days, yet no formal response was received.
Ashok Pandit mentioned that shortly before the press conference, Ranveer’s legal team questioned FWICE’s authority in this situation. Without direct input from the actor to the committee, FWICE proceeded to issue the non-cooperation directive following their internal discussions.
FWICE President BN Tiwari emphasized the broader implications of this matter, stating that disruptions in productions adversely affect thousands of technicians, daily workers, junior artists, and support staff relying on these projects for their livelihood. He asserted that no individual, regardless of their star status, is exempt from the industry’s regulations and professional responsibilities.
This unfolding situation magnifies the crucial discussion on accountability in Bollywood and may shape future artistic agreements and relationships between artists and producers. Meanwhile, there has been no formal confirmation of any legal proceedings from either the Don 3 production team or Ranveer Singh.
