Míchel's Stance on Livakovic: No Future at Girona After Refusal to Play

Míchel's Stance on Livakovic: No Future at Girona After Refusal to Play

Post by : Mara Rahim

On Thursday, Girona's coach Míchel declared that Croatia’s goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic would no longer participate in club activities following his refusal to play in a recent fixture. He criticized Livakovic for prioritizing his international future over the team's needs.

Míchel noted that Livakovic had expressed his desire to leave Girona, solely focused on the World Cup. He indicated that the goalkeeper declined to play as it could jeopardize his chances for a transfer since he has already represented Fenerbahce this season, making his situation complex.

The coach further revealed that he had requested Livakovic to play in a Copa del Rey match earlier this month, which the goalkeeper turned down. This led to regular starter Paulo Gazzaniga having to play despite being ill with the flu and a high fever, leaving the club with just one available goalkeeper until the winter transfer window.

Míchel mentioned he felt compelled to go public as the fans deserved transparency regarding the situation. Gazzaniga, part of the club for three years, has had inconsistent performances this season, making critical errors including two goals conceded against Elche.

Currently, Girona stands at 18th place in the league, firmly in the relegation zone, worsening the goalkeeper dilemma as they strive for survival in the top tier.
