Post by : Mara Rahim

Algerian coach Majid Bougherra expressed his happiness after the team’s significant 2-0 victory over Iraq at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. This win allowed Algeria to secure the top position in their group and ensured their advancement to the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup. Bougherra expressed pride in his players for their discipline, teamwork, and adherence to the tactical plan during the match. He highlighted their maturity and strong commitment from the start until the final whistle.

He also extended gratitude to Algerian fans, both present at the stadium and those cheering from home, noting that their support fueled the team’s performance. Bougherra vowed that Algeria would maintain their energy and determination as they progress to the next stage, with ambitions of advancing further in the tournament.

Experienced midfielder Yacine Brahimi shared his reflections post-match, acknowledging the team’s solid performance but warned that the upcoming rounds would pose greater challenges against stronger opponents. He emphasized the need for focus and consistency, stating that each match is now critical, and the team must prepare for any obstacles ahead.

On the Iraqi side, coach Graham Arnold lauded his players despite the loss. Iraq faced a challenging match, playing most of it with ten men due to an early red card and dealing with injuries. Arnold respected the team’s courage and fighting spirit shown under challenging circumstances. He noted that Iraq’s primary goal was to reach the quarter-finals, which they have achieved.

Arnold regarded the Arab Cup as an essential opportunity for Iraq to experiment with strategies and gather invaluable experience for future international competitions. He remarked that the team would learn from their shortcomings and aim to recover, heading into the next stage with confidence.

Both Algeria and Iraq are set to move forward to the quarter-finals, where they will encounter new adversaries in knockout matches filled with tension and excitement. Fans from both nations are eagerly anticipating strong performances as the teams continue their journey in the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup.
