Mahindra Unveils the XEV 9S: A Roomy 7-Seater Electric SUV for India

Mahindra has introduced its latest flagship electric SUV in India, the XEV 9S, signifying a notable shift within the nation’s expanding electric vehicle sector. This seven-seater model is tailored for spaciousness, robust performance, and cutting-edge technological advancements, striving to provide families with comfort and practicality in an electric format.

Unveiled in Bengaluru, the Mahindra XEV 9S utilizes the company’s INGLO electric platform and is available in six configurations, starting at ₹19.95 lakh. Bookings will start on 14 January 2026, with deliveries scheduled for 23 January 2026. The lineup includes a 70 kWh battery variant and a top-tier 79 kWh Pack Three Above model listed at ₹29.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra promotes the XEV 9S as an expansive and flexible selection, appealing not just to electric vehicle enthusiasts but also as a versatile option compared to conventional combustion engine SUVs. The cabin is designed for comfort and adaptability, featuring three rows optimized for family needs. Additionally, it boasts the largest interior in its category, offering 4,076 litres of space across the first two rows, along with a 527-litre boot and a unique 150-litre front trunk.

R Velusamy, the President of Mahindra’s Automotive Business, emphasized the SUV’s blend of technology and comfort, showcasing the MAIA intelligent system that facilitates numerous high-tech features and guarantees a peaceful ride. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra Automotive Division, remarked that the XEV 9S reshapes the EV landscape by merging space, technology, and efficiency, thereby enhancing the electric mobility market in India. Chief Design Officer Pratap Bose highlighted the SUV’s design ethos, intending to craft a personal sanctuary that mirrors modern Indian aesthetics.

In terms of performance, the XEV 9S features state-of-the-art LFP batteries of either 70 kWh or 79 kWh, providing an authentic range of up to 500 km. The vehicle generates up to 210 kW power, offers 380 Nm of torque, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds, and reaches a maximum speed of 202 km/h. Fast DC charging allows the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Its suspension is equipped with intelligent adaptive dampers and a five-link rear setup for enhanced comfort.

Over 140 connected features will come standard with the XEV 9S, including digital key functionalities, user profiles, live security monitoring, and a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) system for in-car entertainment. Premium models will feature Qualcomm's 8295 chipset, dual wireless charging, and AutoPark Assist. Safety features are prioritized, including up to seven airbags, Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with multiple radars and cameras, a driver monitoring system, 360-degree cameras, blind spot assistance, and a robust body structure.

Inside, the SUV is equipped with ventilated seats in the front two rows, a powered boss mode, adjustable and reclining second-row seats, dual-zone climate control, sunshades, lounge desks, and special climate modes designed for pets and cargo. The cabin also features a panoramic skyroof and expansive dashboard displays, all accentuated by high-quality upholstery and acoustic laminated glass ensuring a serene environment.

The Mahindra XEV 9S seeks to unify spaciousness, comfort, technology, and performance within a single advanced electric SUV, positioning itself as a robust contender in India’s competitive EV market. Customers can test-drive the SUV starting 5 January 2026 and initiate bookings from 14 January, with deliveries commencing 23 January 2026.

This launch firmly places Mahindra as a pivotal player in India’s electric SUV arena, catering to families and tech-forward consumers in search of a spacious, efficient, and feature-rich electric vehicle.
