The head coach of Spain, Luis de la Fuente, has shared his enthusiasm over the return of rising star Lamine Yamal to the national team just in time for pivotal World Cup qualifying matches. The young forward from Barcelona, previously hampered by a groin injury, is back and will be crucial as Spain prepares to clash with Georgia and Turkey.
At only 18, Yamal missed the last two qualifiers due to his injury but made a successful comeback in club football recently. Despite Barcelona's recent El Clasico setback, where they faced a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid, Yamal remains a key topic in Spanish football commentary. His actions post-match, which involved a tense exchange with several Real Madrid players, have drawn significant media attention.
In a press briefing on Friday, De la Fuente made it clear how important Yamal’s return is: "He’s fit again and we are delighted to have him back,” he stated, highlighting that Yamal’s fitness is vital for Spain's success in this campaign. When queried about the surrounding media scrutiny, De la Fuente expressed a protective approach, advocating for patience and understanding toward the young player.
“The media is keen to focus on him, and this should motivate him,” he said, emphasizing the necessity of guidance for Yamal as he develops both personally and athletically. Support from his club and national setup is essential as he matures.
Yamal’s comeback comes at a crucial time, with Spain currently leading Group E in the European World Cup qualification rounds. His addition bolsters the squad's attacking capabilities. Spain’s upcoming matches include a trip to Tbilisi to face Georgia on November 15, followed by a home fixture against Turkey in Seville on November 18.
Joining Yamal, Paris Saint-Germain's Fabian Ruiz also returns after recovering from a leg injury sustained during a Champions League game against Barcelona.
Unfortunately, Spain will miss several key players due to injuries, including Barcelona's Pedri and Manchester City's Rodri. Other notable absences include Real Madrid's captain Dani Carvajal, Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, and Robin Le Normand of Atletico Madrid.
As Spain aims for a commanding finish in the qualifiers, the return of youthful talents like Yamal brings fresh optimism for both the team and its fans. De la Fuente’s strategy of fostering young talents while navigating the pressures of international football will be pivotal in Spain's pursuit of World Cup qualification and overall success.
