Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has reported a notable improvement in a persistent knee issue, a development that could reopen the door to competitive tennis ahead of the 2025 Australian Open. The 30-year-old has managed only five singles matches over the past three years after undergoing wrist and knee surgeries.
According to Kyrgios, the change has been recent and striking: in the past month the knee has not swollen and no longer leaves him sore after training sessions, he said.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist, who has spent extended periods in rehabilitation, described the turnaround as almost miraculous and said the joint feels considerably more robust than it did previously.
For the first time in months he has been able to complete multiple consecutive days of training without pain or setback, allowing him to recover between sessions and gradually increase his workload.
Currently ranked 652nd in the world after his prolonged absence, Kyrgios would need a wild‑card to play the Australian Open. He last competed in the second round of the Miami Open in March 2025.
As an indicator of readiness he is scheduled to take part in an exhibition match against women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka in Dubai on December 28, billed as a unique "Battle of the Sexes" event.
