Kuwait Probes Disability Payments Sent to Dead Citizens

Kuwait is looking into a big case of welfare fraud. Around 60 people who had died were still getting money from the government every month meant for disabled citizens. The money was supposed to stop once they passed away, but it kept coming in.

The people who took care of these citizens didn’t tell the government they had died. Instead, they kept collecting the money. The problem was found during a routine check between two government departments. They matched death records with those getting disability help and found that many payments were still being made to people who had already died.

The payments were sent to bank accounts connected to these people, and now officials are checking how much money was wrongly given out. They've already stopped all these payments and made a list of who was involved. The disabilities in question ranged from mild to serious.

The Ministry of Health is helping confirm the dates people passed away, so they can count how much money should not have been paid. If money was wrongly taken, it will be asked back — either all at once if it's a small amount or in parts for bigger sums. Legal action is also likely.

This situation has made many people in Kuwait upset. They are now asking for better systems to stop these problems in the future — like using better digital tracking and verification methods.
