Kasim Khan, the younger son of former Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan, has voiced alarm regarding his father's ongoing detention, capturing international concern. In a series of posts on social media, Kasim stated that he and his family have been unable to visit Imran Khan for over a month and urged human rights organizations to take action. He emphasized that any repercussions stemming from his father's isolation would fall squarely on the Pakistani authorities.
Born in 1999 to Imran Khan and his ex-wife, British journalist Jemima Goldsmith, Kasim is the younger sibling of Sulaiman Isa Khan. He spent his early childhood in Pakistan before relocating to London after his parents’ separation. With a degree in anthropology and innovation from the University of Bristol, Kasim founded Mifu, a platform aimed at bridging influencers and brands. While he avoids direct involvement in politics, he stands out for his vocal support of his father's well-being.
Kasim recently revealed the grim circumstances of Imran's imprisonment, claiming that his father has been held in solitary confinement for an extended period, which he referred to as a "death cell". He noted that his sisters have been prevented from visiting him, despite court orders permitting such meetings, and stressed that neither he nor his brother have been able to communicate with Imran. He warned that those in power would be accountable for his father's safety and the ramifications of continued isolation. Officials have, however, refuted reports of any health decline concerning Imran Khan, asserting that he remains in good health.
Imran Khan’s family lineage is notable; he is the son of Ikramullah Khan Niazi, a civil engineer pivotal in the Pakistan movement, and Shaukat Khanum, a homemaker. He has four sisters: Rubina Khanum, Aleema Khanum, Uzma Khanum, and Rani Khanum. Imran's marital history includes three marriages: his first to Jemima Goldsmith in 1995, which produced sons Sulaiman and Kasim, ended in divorce in 2004; followed by a brief marriage to journalist Reham Khan in 2015, and a current union with Bushra Bibi, his spiritual guide, since 2018.
Kasim Khan’s plea illustrates the escalating public concern for Imran Khan, whose detention has ignited protests and heated discussions surrounding human rights and legal issues in Pakistan. His calls for global awareness shine a light on the ongoing struggles regarding Imran Khan's imprisonment and his family's plight, highlighting what he terms as "inhumane conditions" within the prison.
