Justin Herbert Sets Sights on Monday Return Following Surgery

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The Los Angeles Chargers are keeping a close watch on quarterback Justin Herbert, who is eager to make his comeback after hand surgery. Herbert injured his left hand during a collision with Las Vegas Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn and underwent an operation last week, where doctors inserted a plate and screws. Despite the surgery, he remains focused on starting in this Monday's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 27-year-old experienced the injury in the first quarter of the Chargers' impressive 31-14 victory over the Raiders. Although he briefly exited the game, he returned, demonstrating his tenacity and commitment to his teammates. In the days following his surgery, Herbert has not thrown a football, leaving backup Trey Lance to take charge of the first-team practice sessions.

Despite the challenges posed by his injury, Herbert remains positive. “I’m preparing as if I’m going to play and will take things day by day. I want to be there for my teammates,” he stated. With an 8-4 record, the Chargers are in a favorable position for a wild-card spot in the AFC, having won four out of their last five games.

So far this season, Herbert has completed 66.9% of his passes, racking up 2,842 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His availability is crucial for the Chargers as they look to maintain their playoff aspirations, making his recovery a focal point for fans and experts alike.

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has voiced cautious optimism regarding Herbert’s potential return, suggesting that they are hopeful he can spearhead the team against a formidable Eagles side. The coming days will be pivotal as the team prepares for this significant challenge.
