Jordan Secures Thrilling Victory Over UAE in Arab Cup 2025 Opener

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In an electrifying start to the 2025 Arab Cup, Jordan's national team, known as Al-Nashama, captured a 2–1 victory over the UAE at Al Bayt Stadium in Doha. The match was laden with excitement, including two penalties, a red card, and quick-fire scoring in the second half.

Tension filled the air from the opening whistle as Jordan swiftly took control. Their assertive play paid off in the 20th minute when Yazan Al-Naimat was fouled inside the penalty area, allowing Ali Alwan to convert the spot-kick and put Jordan ahead 1–0. The incident had a significant impact on the UAE, as defender Khalid Ibrahim received a direct red card for the foul, leaving the UAE with just ten men for the rest of the contest.

Even with the numerical advantage, Jordan was unable to extend their lead before halftime. Just before the break, after another foul against Al-Naimat—this time by the opposing goalkeeper—Jordan was awarded another penalty. However, Alwan’s second attempt went astray, and the score remained 1–0 as the first half concluded.

The UAE emerged from halftime rejuvenated and equalized just two minutes later, with Bruno Oliveira making it 1–1 in the 47th minute, briefly shifting the match’s momentum.

However, Jordan quickly regained control. By the 63rd minute, Yazan Al-Naimat struck again, netting the decisive goal and ensuring all three points for Jordan. They effectively exploited their numerical advantage, maintaining control as the match drew to a close.

This victory places Jordan atop their group, which includes Egypt, Kuwait, and the UAE, setting a powerful tone for their journey in the Arab Cup.
