Vardy's Stellar Performance Leads Cremonese to 3-1 Triumph Over Bologna

In a remarkable display of skill, Jamie Vardy scored his inaugural Serie A brace, leading Cremonese to a convincing 3-1 victory over Bologna in Italy.

The seasoned striker, previously with Leicester City and England, showcased his enduring talent by finding the net twice, once before and once after the break, as Cremonese, currently 11th with 17 points, handed Bologna their first home loss of the season.

Bologna aimed to close the gap on league leaders AC Milan and Napoli but faced a setback on a rainy evening at Stadio Renato Dall’Arra, thanks to the 38-year-old Vardy.

“We just needed a little rain; it reminded me of typical midweek games back in the UK,” Vardy quipped after ending Cremonese’s three-match losing streak. “The crucial aspect was securing those three points and continuing our momentum. It's all about dedication and giving our best to the club.”

Cremonese gained the upper hand in the 31st minute through Martin Payero, and Vardy quickly followed with a nearly identical goal five minutes later. Though Bologna briefly responded with a stoppage-time penalty from Riccardo Orsolini, Vardy restored the two-goal lead early in the second half, elevating his total to four goals in nine matches for Cremonese.

Coach Davide Nicola lauded Vardy, stating it’s a “privilege” to have him on the team. “Great players are straightforward to manage; they understand their roles and perform them impeccably. Vardy's mentality and spirit are invaluable.”

Vardy joined Cremonese in September on a one-year contract, which includes an option for an additional season should the club maintain its Serie A status. The striker aims to absorb a fresh football culture, aligning himself with a team backed by Italian billionaire Giovanni Arvedi.
