Israel Assures Military Superiority Following US-Saudi F-35 Transaction

Post by : Raina Nasser

Israel has expressed confidence in maintaining its military superiority in the Middle East, despite the recent announcement from the United States regarding the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia. This declaration came from an official Israeli government spokesperson on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

Currently, Israel is the sole operator of the F-35 in the region, recognized as one of the world's most sophisticated fighter aircraft. The United States has assured Israel that it will retain a "qualitative military edge" in the area, signifying that Israel will possess military technology that surpasses that of any neighboring nation.

Spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian stated, “The United States and Israel share a long-standing commitment that Israel preserves its qualitative advantage in defense. This principle has been upheld historically and will continue moving forward.” These comments represent Israel's first official reaction to the F-35 transaction with Saudi Arabia.

Earlier in the week, it was revealed that the US would be supplying F-35 warplanes to Saudi Arabia, which does not recognize Israel officially. During his visit to Washington, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed the kingdom's desire to forge formal relations with Israel while pushing for a viable two-state solution for the Palestinians.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been a vocal opponent of Palestinian statehood. US representatives have affirmed that the F-35s delivered to Saudi Arabia will lack some of the advanced features integrated into Israel's aircraft, including sophisticated weapon systems and electronic warfare capabilities, allowing Israel to maintain its defense superiority.

This situation sheds light on the ongoing strategic dynamics in the Middle East, showcasing Israel's commitment to staying ahead in terms of technology and defense, even as the US expands its military engagements in the region.
