ICC Hands Haris Rauf Two-Match Ban After Asia Cup Conduct Findings

ICC Hands Haris Rauf Two-Match Ban After Asia Cup Conduct Findings

Post by : Mina Rahman

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a two-match suspension on Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf after he accumulated four demerit points for inappropriate on-field behaviour during the Asia Cup. Rauf was found to have breached Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct for repeatedly making jet-crashing gestures in the tournament final and in another fixture against India.

Sources indicate Rauf was not advised by the match referee that admitting the offence might have led to a reduced sanction. It was also reported that the demerit points were recorded after the hearing without prior notification to the 31-year-old. The disciplinary hearing, overseen by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson, concluded that the gestures constituted breaches; in addition to the suspension, the board deducted 30% of Rauf's match fee and allocated two demerit points for each breach.

Other players received sanctions for celebratory or offensive gestures during the Asia Cup. Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan was formally reprimanded after making an AK-47 style celebration following a half-century against India. From the Indian side, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav were also disciplined. Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh was investigated for an allegedly obscene or insulting gesture but was ultimately cleared and faced no penalty.

The ICC's enforcement underscores its priority to preserve discipline and fair play across international cricket. Matches between India and Pakistan are especially tense and high-profile, and the regulator says the penalties are intended to deter conduct that undermines the sport's spirit.

Rauf's suspension will rule him out of forthcoming fixtures, and the demerit points will remain on his disciplinary record for two years; any further violations in that window could trigger escalated sanctions. The ICC has reiterated its continued monitoring of player behaviour at international events.
