Higham Lane School Temporarily Closes Due to Cyber Attack

Post by : Mina Rahman

Higham Lane School in Nuneaton has been forced to close temporarily following a cyber attack that compromised essential IT systems. The institution, which accommodates around 1,400 students aged 11 to 18 and is affiliated with the Central England Academy Trust, ceased operations on Monday and plans to remain shut until Wednesday.

The academy issued a statement confirming that this closure is a precautionary step while investigations are ongoing. Authorities along with cybersecurity experts are actively working to safely restore the affected systems.

Upon learning of the breach, the school activated its incident response protocols, which involved safeguarding IT infrastructure and bringing in independent cybersecurity professionals to probe the incident. Parents have been informed that all relevant authorities are being kept in the loop, and the school is cooperating fully with the investigation.

In a communication sent to families, the administration described the closure decision as a “difficult” one, made in light of advice from outside specialists. Both students and staff have been instructed not to access any school systems, including Google Classroom and SharePoint, until further notice.

For students who have already logged in with school credentials, the institution reassured them that there is no immediate risk, but access is being limited as a caution while the investigation persists.

Higham Lane School has reiterated its commitment to the privacy and security of its community as a principal concern. Families will receive updates as more information becomes available.
