Fujairah Crown Prince and WFCC President Pledge Collaboration to Advance Chess

Post by : Raina Nasser

Fujairah, UAE — H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, welcomed Marjan Kovacevic, President of the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC), at Al Rumaila Palace. Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Barkat, WFCC Vice President and Chairman of the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, also attended the meeting.

The discussion focused on strengthening ties between the emirate and international sports organisations such as the WFCC. H.H. the Crown Prince emphasised Fujairah’s intent to use intellectual sports like chess to foster analytical reasoning and creative problem-solving, particularly among young people.

He reiterated that, under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Fujairah continues to back cultural and sporting programmes designed to develop local talent and encourage strategic, inventive approaches to learning.

Marjan Kovacevic thanked the Crown Prince for the reception and highlighted the potential for joint initiatives. He said closer cooperation with Fujairah would facilitate broader international projects to promote chess and extend its reach both inside the emirate and overseas.

The meeting underlined Fujairah’s expanding role as a centre for cultural and intellectual sports, in line with the UAE’s broader aim of nurturing creativity and excellence among its younger generations.
