Foreign Phone Brands See Strong Comeback in China as Shipments Double in November

Post by : Saif Nasser

Shipments of foreign mobile phones saw a strong rise in China in November, showing renewed demand for international smartphone brands after months of slow growth.

According to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), shipments of phones made by overseas brands increased by 128.4% compared to the same month last year. This growth stood out at a time when the overall smartphone market in China showed only limited improvement.

Total mobile phone shipments in China reached 30.16 million units in November, a modest rise of 1.9% from a year earlier. Out of this, foreign-made phones accounted for 6.93 million units, highlighting their growing share in the market.

Apple’s iPhone played a major role in this recovery. The launch of the new iPhone 17 series helped attract buyers, especially in large cities such as Beijing, where strong footfall was seen at Apple retail stores during the sales period.

Over the past year, international smartphone makers faced pressure from weaker consumer spending and tough competition from Chinese brands offering feature-rich devices at lower prices. The latest data suggests that consumer confidence may be slowly returning, especially for premium products.

Analysts say seasonal shopping trends, new product launches, and year-end promotions likely supported sales. However, the sharp increase also points to sustained interest in global brands rather than a short-term boost.

The November figures offer a positive sign for global technology companies operating in China. While the market remains competitive, demand for foreign smartphones appears to be stabilizing after a challenging period.
