Abu Dhabi has celebrated a significant cultural milestone with the grand opening of the Zayed National Museum, the UAE's premier museum and a key attraction within the Saadiyat Cultural District. This long-anticipated facility consolidates a wealth of heritage and archaeological treasures, narrating the story of the nation.
Guests are welcomed into the museum via the expansive 600-metre Al Masar Garden, an outdoor exhibition that introduces the rich narratives that unfold inside. Six permanent galleries present the history of the UAE, spanning from the earliest signs of human life to the communities and trade networks that influenced the region's cultural evolution. With over 1,500 artifacts, including archaeological discoveries, historical artifacts, reconstructions, and multimedia displays, visitors will traverse 300,000 years of human history.
One dedicated gallery showcases the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, intertwining his story with the nation's development. The museum highlights his values and vision as essential to understanding the UAE's cultural foundations, bridging all seven emirates through common heritage.
Crafted by the renowned architect Lord Norman Foster, the museum's impressive design signifies another achievement in the UAE's cultural landscape. It complements other recent openings, such as teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, further establishing the Saadiyat Cultural District as a vital cultural destination.
In honor of its opening, the museum has launched a month-long series of performances, workshops, and family activities under the theme “Deep Roots and Everlasting Legacy.” Visitors can enjoy traditional Razfa and Naashat dances, poetry readings, Taghrooda music, Nahma seafaring chants, and Nadba mountain calls that embody Emirati culture throughout both indoor and outdoor venues. The immersive Gahwa experience created with Bait Al Gahwa enhances the cultural ambiance, supplemented by craft workshops and guided museum tours available with advance reservations.
Additionally, guests can shop at Al Nagwa Boutique, offering gifts inspired by the museum's themes. Dining selections range from the signature Erth Restaurant to Al Ghaf Café and various Garden Cafés, providing multiple spots to relax after exploring.
Tickets and annual memberships are purchasable through the museum's official website, signaling a new era in how the UAE's rich story is preserved, shared, and experienced globally.
