Significant Blaze at Jammu-Katra Expressway Facility Results in ₹2 Crore Damage

Post by : Mina Rahman

A significant fire broke out on Tuesday night at a construction store located near Khizarpur village, within the Talwandi Chaudhrian region of Kapurthala district, where the Jammu-Katra Expressway is currently under construction. The inferno resulted in extensive damage, with estimated losses reaching nearly ₹2 crore.

Local officials indicated that the fire originated inside the facility, which was stocked with valuable chemicals and construction supplies. The flames spread quickly, consuming nearly all inventory and leading to severe financial repercussions.

Firefighting teams promptly arrived at the scene and worked tirelessly to control the situation. Additionally, personnel from Talwandi Chaudhrian police station joined the efforts to ensure the safety of nearby regions.

Mandeep Singh, the store manager, noted that the establishment closed around 7 PM, with lights extinguished. A vigilant security guard detected smoke around 8 PM and quickly notified the authorities. Unfortunately, by the time the response teams reached the location, the fire had already spread extensively.

Initial investigations indicate a potential short circuit as the cause of the blaze, although investigators are considering other possibilities as well. Police and fire officials have initiated an official inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

The destruction of valuable chemicals and other materials poses a significant setback for the Jammu-Katra Expressway project. Authorities are currently reviewing safety measures to avert similar occurrences in the future.
