The FIFA World Cup 2026 draw is scheduled for Friday, just ahead of the tournament that runs from June 11 to July 19 across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Among the 48 participating countries is the Qatar national team, which secured its spot by finishing first in Group A during the fourth round of Asian qualifiers, surpassing Oman and the UAE.
This marks Qatar’s second consecutive appearance at a World Cup and its first qualification via the standard method, following its role as host for the 2022 event. The draw will be held at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, where the teams will be arranged into 12 groups of four.
FIFA has categorized the teams into four tiers according to rankings published on November 19. The three host nations—USA, Canada, and Mexico—occupy the top tier regardless of their rankings. Qatar is placed in the third tier with teams such as Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa, ensuring it will not face these teams in the opening rounds.
The second tier includes nations like Croatia, Morocco, Colombia, Uruguay, Switzerland, Japan, Senegal, Iran, South Korea, Ecuador, Austria, and Australia. Pot four comprises teams like Jordan, Cape Verde, Ghana, Curacao, Haiti, New Zealand, and the winners from European and global playoffs.
The 2026 World Cup will see a historic Arab representation, with seven teams confirmed: Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco. Iraq has a chance to qualify through the global playoff in March, which could bring the total to eight Arab countries. Tunisia, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia are set to make their seventh World Cup appearances, while Algeria will compete for the fifth time, and Egypt for the fourth. Jordan will make its debut, and Qatar returns after hosting in 2022.
During the draw, FIFA will allocate teams from each pot into groups A to L, promoting an organized setup. The three host nations will be pre-positioned: Mexico at the top of Group A, Canada in Group B, and the USA in Group C. Additionally, FIFA aims to keep top-ranked teams like Spain, Argentina, France, and England from confronting each other early in the tournament by devising separate paths to the semi-finals.
A significant rule stipulates that each group can feature no more than one team from the same confederation, with the exception of UEFA, which has 16 teams allowed a maximum of two per group. Other continental confederations are limited to one team per group. FIFA will finalize the group stage setup by December 6, giving fans ample time to plan for the matches.
This organized process aims to ensure a balanced competition, uphold fair play, and provide fans an unforgettable and historic World Cup 2026 with remarkable Arab involvement.
